About SESH

Studio management software for the rooms, gear, and people that music actually gets made in.

Every studio, rehearsal space, or gear collection is a small business with the same three problems: a calendar that has to stay accurate, a set of books that need keeping, and equipment worth writing down and insuring properly. SESH is built to solve those first — the calendar sync, the accounting, the inventory and insurance schedule, a booking widget for your own website and your own clients.

Alongside that, SESH also runs an optional public marketplace, where musicians, producers, and artists who don't already have a room can search real rates and book by the hour, paying through the site. It's a real feature, and some hosts get real value from it — it's just not the reason to run SESH.

Where this came from

SESH is the second run at an idea that started around 2014. The first version raised money and built a real product, but development costs outpaced the runway and it stalled before it found its footing.

This version is a rebuild from scratch by the same founder — this time built directly rather than contracted out. The name, the logo, and the core idea are the same. Everything under them is new.

How we make money

SESH's subscriptions sell the tools — calendar sync, the booking widget, accounting, inventory. A booking that happens through SESH, however it comes about, carries a single 3% processing fee taken from the host — the same way a card processor charges a merchant, not the merchant's customer. Guests pay the price on the listing and nothing on top. That rate is the same for everyone, on every plan; subscribing buys tools, not a lower fee.

We'd rather charge for software that saves a studio owner real time than take a bigger cut of a booking between two people who are going to work together again anyway — a band rehearses in the same room every month, a producer works with the same engineer all year, and every point of fee taken from a relationship like that is an argument for arranging the next one privately instead.

We're also deliberate about what SESH is not: a party to the booking. Whether it happens through a host's own widget or through SESH's marketplace, SESH doesn't introduce, recommend, or vouch for anyone — the decision to work with someone is always the host's own.

How bookings are protected

When a guest books, SESH holds the payment rather than forwarding it to the host straight away. The host's earnings are released automatically 24 hours after the session's scheduled end.

That window is the point. If a room is not as described, or a session never happens, there is still time to sort it out before the money has moved.
